Have you ever been scammed in a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) before? I have, and it ain’t pretty. But it’s really a learning experience, a lesson in who to trust and who not to trust. Scammers usually avoid capture because they hide behind their avatars and false identities, and they are usually thousands of miles away from the victim.
But what will happen if the scammer and the victim happens to be in one place during a scam? Film maker Edwin Guillermo explains what happens in his award winning short film, SCAM! Watch it after the jump!
The story of this Ragnarok Filmfest 2005 3rd place winner revolves around the anti-hero Lance who teaches a netcafe bystander some tips on how to become rich in Philippine Ragnarok Online. Interestingly, he gives tips on how to scam effectively. In fact he even demonstrates this by using his female priestess to scam his in-game “boyfriend”. Little did he know that someone else is watching his every move…
The “boyfriend” happens to be Mia, a girl who also plays at the same netcafe. Lance is soon discovered and gets a taste of what he deserve.

The film shows a good portrayal of its subject matter. Straight to the point without side tracking. The message is definitely delivered. Scammers beware, you could be next!
