A handful of Philippine Ragnarok Online players have asked me this question several times but I couldn’t answer them because I wasn’t using Windows Vista. Well, I WAS using Vista but I switched back to XP. But my friend Nicole found the solution. So to all Vista users there who want to play pRO, this is what you should do. Find out after the jump!

Here is how I did it:

I turned off the UAC (sorry, didn’t see the former posts) and got an idea on how to run RO on Vista (from a site about Trickster Online). Make sure that your Vista copy is genuine. The following steps below won’t work if your Vista OS is pirated or a copy:

1. Locate your profile folder
* Click the ‘Start’ button.
* Type “C:/Users/” and hit enter and a window should pop up with a list of folders.
* Find the one with the same name as your Windows username and double-click it.
* You should now see a list of all your personal folders: Desktop, Pictures, Documents, Favorites, things like that.

2. Locate the profile data for Ragnarok Online.
* You need the AppData folder (which is hidden by default), so, click on the location bar at the top (it should say something like : Local Disk (C:) > Users > (your user name). Click in the blank space between that and the little down arrow.
* It should change into a normal textbox with the contents highlighted. Click in the blank space again to unhighlight everything.
* Now type or copy and paste: \appdata\local\virtualstore\program files\ragnarok online
* Hit enter.

3. Install Ragnarok online on the above location.
* If you are logged in as an account without administrator rights, and if it says something about permission, just click ‘continue’ or allow.

4. REMEMBER TO TURN OFF “USER ACCOUNT CONTROL” FIRST before patching!

5. Start RO normally!

* If your Windows crashes, just restart your computer/laptop. That happened to me, but when I restarted, everything functioned normally.

Simple way to turn off your User Account Control - but make sure that you’re the Administrator. I don’t think you can modify the settings if you’re not the Admin:

1. Click on Start.
2. Click on Control Panel.
3. Look for User Accounts. A new window will pop up.
4. Look for “Turn User Account Control on or off” and click on that. A new window will pop up.
5. Remove the checkmark on “Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.
6. Click OK.
7. A window will pop up and will ask you to restart your computer.
8. Restart your computer.
